My Story

If a man had 10,000 volts shot down his spine, he'd probably be less energised and certainly have less about him than Sergey - an extraordinary, unconventional, and phenomenally capable individual, who was so utterly full of life. Everyone who knew Sergey would probably agree that he lived life to the full, giving everything he had and seizing the moment like he knew life couldn't last forever. He lived with the force of ten men, and like he had the power of all of his ancestors flowing through his veins. The world of the living has been robbed of a greatly passionate and compassionate man - an advocate's advocate who persuaded others with the force of his feelings and the strength of his convictions, never with empty words. The words "really?” "dude" and "ok!" fired from Sergey's lips have doubtless changed many a mind. Sergey had a sincerity about him, a kind and caring nature that humbled most and allowed him to inspire admiration amongst his colleagues, and to command their respect. He was modest to the very end - never one to make a big deal about goodbyes, preferring instead to leave a party silently than to make a big to-do. But he was always felt when present. The biggest irony is the way Sergey lived his life - like there was no tomorrow - sadly came true for him. Thankfully for those of us lucky enough to have encountered Sergey, this was only his way of sticking two fingers up at death because he didn't waste any of the time he had. Sergey would surely be proud if we could help Cancer Research UK, in any small measure, find ways to save more life. He wouldn't want it to be wasted. We have requested that all the money donated on this page goes directly to lung cancer research. Lung cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat and it is often diagnosed at a late stage. Sadly it has one of the lowest survival rates of any type of cancer. We never consider lung cancer to be a risk for anyone as young as Sergey or indeed anyone who is a non-smoker as he was but sadly he is proof that it can and no one yet knows why or how to treat it. So please, help us to raise as much as we can help to find a cure for lung cancer so that other's lives may not be wasted. In Sergey's words, as he passed any Cancer Research shop, let's help them 'Get on with it already!' and find a cure. Thank you. If you are a UK taxpayer the value of your donation can increase by at least 25% under the Gift Aid scheme - at no additional cost to you. So please tick the Gift Aid box when you donate. Please note that we have opted not to display the individual amounts that people are donating. You will be asked if you would like your donation to be anonymous, this will mean that your name is not listed, nor your message but will not affect whether or not donation amounts are displayed.
