Lenny was born in Malta on the 3rd June 1959 and was one of five children. The Mifsuds came to live in England when Lenny was 15 as his father was in the RAF and had been stationed here. Lenny (as we all knew him) entered the RAF himself at the age of 19 and served for 22 years seeing 3 tours of the Falkland Islands. After this he continued to work for the MOD as a civilian. Lenny's passion was to sail. He was a dedicated family man with two gorgeous daughters and a loving wife to whom he was married to for 27 years. He was one of the corner stones of our large family, always there, always dependable with a cheeky grin and twinkling eyes. At 52 years old he appeared fit and healthy but he developed a persistent cough. This was diagnosed as pneumonia in the middle of September. He was then admitted to hospital but later released home, where he contained to be quite poorly. On October 17th he was readmitted and sent up to ITU where the nightmare truly began. After a few days Len was placed on a ventilator as he was so exhausted. The doctors assured us this was a temporary thing and not uncommon. Barrages of tests were run daily and then we received the ever deteriorating results. On Friday 28th October 2011 we received the shocking news that Lenny had cancer in his lungs, liver, spleen, bones and brain. Lenny who had never smoked, rarely drank, looked so damn healthy and young was in fact dying and showed no signs at all! On Saturday 29th October 2011 Lenny's Ventalator was turned off. After fighting so hard it was time to let him go peacefully, unaware of the devastation that cancer had caused his body. Unaware that he had been terminally ill. With much of his family at his bedside, Lenny slipped away from this life, leaving behind a family that was devastated, reeling in shock that there had been no symptoms and unable to comprehend what had just unfolded.
