My Story

Thank you for visiting Donate in Memory.Ian was my lovely, fit and healthy husband, aged 52 who was never ill. On 13th July 2009 he was admitted to hospital with backache and two days later was diagnosed with kidney or adrenal cancer, He was sent home to await the results of a biopsy to determine what treatment was needed. At this stage there were a few spots on his lungs. A few weeks later it was confirmed it was adrenal cancer and he would start a course of chemotherapy. However the next day he was readmitted with breathing problems and the cancer was now widespread in his lungs. He started the chemotherapy but it was too late and Ian died on 27th August 2009. Everyone at the hospital was shocked at the speed and aggressiveness of this rare cancer. Therefore, although it is too late for Ian, as a family, we would like to help support this charity to research this and any other types of this cruel and horrible disease.Ian was a lovely, kind and caring husband and the proudest best dad ever to Amy and Joe. We all miss him terribly but are trying to carry on as he wants us to. We have a lovely home which Ian worked very hard on but he had just started on the garden when he was taken ill. With the help of friends and family we have finished our beautiful garden and held open days on the 28th and 29th August 2009. We had beautiful weather, lots of cakes and over the 2 days 130 people came and we raised £913.01 for this charity. A week later Joe and his friend Mat ran in the Bristol Half Marathon (their first one!) and raised a further £1287.79 giving a total raised of £2200.80 for Cancer Research UK . On 12th June 2011 the City of Bristol Band of which Joe is a member, will be playing a memorial concert for Ian, in aid of Cancer Research. The concert will take place at St Michaels Church, Old School Rooms, The Green, Stoke Gifford and will include a piece written especially for Ian by Steve Rockey. On 19th June 2011 (Fathers Day) Amy will be running in the Race for Life in Guildford in memory of her daddy. www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/amylouisehamlenAnd so we will carry on fundraising in Ians memory and would like to thank all of you who have supported us with these events and those who have just been there for us.
